4.9.2008 Trains and Trains

On the train once more, and I’ve realized this is the last day I’ll be using my Eurail Pass! Tomorrow, my 21 days are up, and I won’t really be taking trains once my parents get here.

I’m a little sad, come to think of it, that I won’t be traveling on trains anymore. I’ve spent a good part of my travels on various trains, lugging my massive suitcase onto different platforms, and showing my passport to all sorts of people. And today it ends.

Today I ride on two trains: one from Barcelona to Montpellier and one from Montpellier to Paris.

Currently, I head to Montpellier. Our train is straight out of the 70s: every possible shade of putrid brown you could imagine adorns the seats, walls, floors, everywhere. The seats recline, or maybe they’re just broken, and the tray tables are on the last leg. This train has seen many routes, I suspect.

But it drives with the mountains to my left, the ocean to my right, and in and out of tunnels and through little French villages that speckle the countryside.

I’m going to miss these trains.
